What localized cryotherapy is for

Cold has been used to calm inflammation for as long as medicine has existed. Localized cryotherapy applies it precisely, at a controlled temperature, to the joint or muscle group that is actually bothering you — rather than sending you into a whole-body chamber for a problem confined to one knee.

Clients typically use it for arthritis discomfort, post-activity soreness, swelling that lingers, and recovery between physical therapy appointments. In a community as active as The Villages, most of what walks through the door is a pickleball shoulder or a golf back.

Nurse-led means the history gets read

Cold therapy is not appropriate for everyone. Certain circulatory conditions, neuropathies and medications change the picture. Because Velora is run by a Registered Nurse, your history is reviewed before a session is booked, and you will be told if this is the wrong tool for you.

What it covers

  • Knees, shoulders, lower back, hips and hands
  • Sessions run 10 to 20 minutes
  • Pairs well with physical therapy and post-surgical rehab
  • Reviewed against your medications and health history first

A good fit if

  • Arthritis discomfort and joint stiffness
  • Post-activity soreness and swelling
  • Recovery support alongside physical therapy

Cryotherapy does not diagnose or treat disease and is not a replacement for care from your physician. New, severe or unexplained pain should be seen by a doctor first.

Questions

About cryotherapy

Anything not covered here, call the studio and ask. It costs nothing to find out.

Does it hurt?

Most clients describe it as intensely cold for a short stretch, then numb and comfortable. The dose is set to your tolerance and can be adjusted mid-session.

How often can I come?

Many clients come once or twice a week during a flare, then drop to maintenance. The membership covers a monthly session if that is your pattern.

Can I combine it with physical therapy?

Yes, and many clients do. Tell Carol what your PT is working on so the timing supports it rather than competing with it.
